I always get the urge to nest at the first signs of Spring…bright green leaves budding all over once bare tree branches, flower buds just waiting to burst open, birds building a nest (in the wreath on my front door).
I couldn’t help but take a cue from nature and breathe some life into my home decor.
There are a few guidelines I follow that I feel add a sense of sophistication to seasonal decorating while still keeping it simple. I call them “Simply Sophisticated Spring Decorating Ideas.”
“Simply” because these ideas are quick, easy and inexpensive. “Sophisticated” because the results are pretty and elegant.
First up, is color.
Spring’s color palette is fresh and bright, especially with shades of green. Bring that indoors by integrating fresh flowers with home accents that you already own.
The second guideline is texture. Leaves of all shapes, sizes and patterns fill the landscape with texture.
The easiest way to replicate that look and feel is to add branches from different types of plants and bushes to a vase.
Tip: I’ve tried many DIY solutions for keeping flowers fresh, and I’ve found that the best way is just by using plain ol’ water ( I use distilled water since we have hard water) and changing it frequently.
Signs of the Season
Lastly, incorporate accents and decor that symbolize the season.
For example, a cloche placed over a budding plant would be a common sight in gardens to protect new plants from harm until the danger of frost is past.
You could also place a bird’s nest atop a stack of books or a small urn, or use lemons as a vase filler.
And that’s it. Just use what you have and incorporate natural elements to recreate the colors, textures and signs of the season. It’s simply sophisticated. 😉
