Today we are adding another printable to our Family/Personal Info section with the Family Documents List. Every family comes loaded with paperwork (which is why we are putting our binders together in the first place) but some of that paperwork is way more important than others. Some of those documents need to be safeguarded until we need them. That’s what this printable is for.
How to use it:
At the top of the Family Documents List is a space for each family member’s name and date of birth. There is also a space for the date you last updated this list. This is one of those lists that needs to be updated at least once a year, so you might want to make a note of that on your Monthly Calendar.
Below the names of the family members, there is a line that says “Location of original documents”, followed by two lists of documents – one for copies and one for originals. Perhaps you have a safe deposit box or a fireproof safe at your house. This is where you need to keep the originals for a lot of your documents. It is a good idea, though, to keep copies in your Family Binder of things like social security cards, birth certificates, etc. You won’t always need the originals, but may need information from these documents from time to time. Keeping copies on hand ensures that you have what you need, but the originals are in a safe place.
You may choose to add one pocket per family member behind your Family Document List and keep everything sorted that way. Whatever works for you, do it. If you don’t have all of these documents on hand, make a note on your Weekly To-Do List to get them in order.
