Has this ever happened to you before? You find out your best friend, sister, roommate, co-worker or family member is pregnant and you decide you want to throw her a baby shower? Except…you’ve never done that before. Or perhaps you have but you fail miserably at sticking to the budget. Or Maybe you so totally are NOT a crafty person and it’s that part of the baby shower planning that paralyzes you.
Whatever your baby shower planning hang ups are, I am here to tell you to stop with the self-doubt. It is possible to plan a gorgeous baby shower with little money and crafting skill. Here are my top 5 Planning Tips for a No Fuss Budget-Friendly Baby Shower.
Baby shower planning is my jam. I have planned and supported countless baby showers and I absolutely love doing it! Each experience has been unique and I continue to learn different crafting tips and budgeting tricks for planning an unforgettable baby shower experience.
I’d like to share with you my top 5 planning tips so that you can successfully plan a No Fuss Budget-Friendly Baby Shower that your guests will never forget!
Tip #1 – Plan with a Group of Helpers
Women are natural born nurturers and creators. When we put our heads and talents together we can really create beautiful things. I highly suggest reaching out to the guest of honor’s closest friends and family to see who would like to help with the planning and baby shower preparations. Don’t feel like you should have to shoulder the entire baby shower plans and expense. Chances are as soon as they hear that you are planning a baby shower, they will offer to help out anyway!
The most important asset you have within your baby shower planning crew is their individual talents and expertise. If Aunt Sue is an avid baker, ask her to bring the cake. You also know that hilarious cousin Sarah really knows how to get the party started and keep people laughing so ask her to plan the games and help with the flow of the party. The idea is to delegate the tasks based off what people are naturally good at so they have a chance to shine in the party planning preparation and take some things off of your to do list!
Tip #2- Frugal Shopping
In all my years of baby shower planning, I’ve learned that spending hundreds of dollars is “so last year.” More and more people are adopting the frugal mentality because there are so many adorable baby shower ideas that can be purchased and/or created at a low-cost.
When it comes to planning the baby shower decor, games, prizes and favors, your best deals will be found at the dollar store, big box stores, discount stores and dollar bins. Some of my favorite things to purchase at the dollar store are ready-made decor pieces like banners. I also buy streamers and balloons to create some really spectacular decorative elements. Games and prizes can be assembled with supplies from the dollar store as well as low-cost party favors. When shopping the “big box” stores remember to grab your 40%-50% off coupons for those items that you can’t find at the discount stores.
Tip #3- Keep it Simple
Some of the best baby showers I’ve attended were very simple and sweet. There doesn’t need to be an overwhelming amount of decorations, and little intricacies. Just a few elements that tie into the theme will create an inviting baby shower environment for your party guests.
Give yourself permission to choose decor pieces and favors that are ready-made or easily assembled, especially if you’re not a natural at crafting or if you have a very limited budget. I’ve prepared baby shower favors from kits and others I’ve created from scratch. Both options are beautiful and thoughtful.
One idea I especially like for the simplicity and frugal factor is to purchase fresh flowers or potted plants and place them in the center of the guest tables for decoration. These can also be given away as prizes for the games. I just love how this decorative element doubles as a game prize!
Here is an example of a practical baby shower favor that also required very little crafting skill. We tied a piece of ribbon around the neck of a hand sanitizer bottle with a cute tag that said, “thank you.”
Tip #4- Potluck Style Menu
I am an avid supporter of “it takes a village,” for most things in life. When planning a baby shower I subscribe to this same thought. I think it’s fun for baby shower guests to experience foods from the guest of honor’s closest family and friends! I just love it when I’m a guest and not only do I receive compliments about my own fruit dip or salsa recipe, but I also enjoy learning what other foods the party guests brought as well!
Not only does delegating some of the menu items bring some relief to your party planning to do list, but it also helps your baby shower budget! Be sure to tell your helpers the theme of the party menu and be very clear on your expectations. Don’t leave any room for misinterpretation. For instance, a side dish for a brunch theme would look a lot different than a side dish for a BBQ theme.
Some of my favorite baby shower menu themes:
- Waffle Bar
- BBQ Lunch
- Tea Party
- Croissant/Yogurt Parfait Bar
- Build Your Own Sandwich
Tip #5- Utilize Planning Sheets and Organizers
This last tip is the most important! Don’t skip this or else you will find yourself out of time and going over budget. It’s imperative to the success of your baby shower planning to use a system to keep you on track with all of the planning details and on budget so that you don’t over spend.
