Hello! I’m Tiffany from The House Down the Lane, and I’m SO excited to be a new contributor here at Sweet Tea and Saving Grace! I love all things craft and DIY, and I’m looking forward to sharing fun and simple projects that you can recreate at home.
Before I jump into today’s project, a Quick & Easy DIY Valentine’s Banner, I just wanted to give Kirsten a hoop and a holler of thanks for the chance to share with all of you!
Now, let’s jump into today’s project.
Quick & Easy DIY Valentine’s Banner
The first thing you’ll want to do is gather up your supplies.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Patterned Paper in Your Choice of Colors and Patterns
- Small Metal Curtain Clips
- Chipboard Letters
- Paper Heart in Your Choice of Color
- 3-D Adhesive Dots
- Bakers Twine
- Embellishments (Optional)
You’ll also need a couple of things that you probably have laying around your house: scissors, a ruler, and a pencil.
The first thing you’ll want to do is trim your patterned paper down so that it measures 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.
I wanted my paper to look like banners, so I measured and found the center of my paper (half of 4 1/2″ is 2 1/4″). I marked it with a dot.
I did my measuring and marking on the back of my patterned papers when I could.
Then I measured 1 3/4″ up from the bottom and marked it at the halfway point that we found above.
From that spot, I drew a line to each corner, creating a short triangle.
Cut the along the lines of the triangle.
And voila! You have a banner!
Now, you can use the banner as a template and trace the triangle onto the other pieces of patterned paper.
If you have different patterns on your paper, lay them out as you want them, then lay out your chipboard letters on the paper to make sure you like how it all looks.
I spelled out L-O-V-E with a heart standing in for the “o.” If you don’t want to do “love,” you could go with Be Mine, any of the sayings from Conversation Hearts, etc. Make this project your own!
Once you’re happy with the layout, attach the chipboard letters with 3-D self-adhesive dots.
I cut out a heart with my Big Shot Die Cutting Machine.
If you don’t have a die cutting machine, you could use a Silhouette, a paper punch, a template, or freehand it. Use what you have!
Attach the heart in place of the “o” in love, then add any special details you’d like.
I went with a pink flower button and a self-adhesive rhinestone (You may have noticed that self-adhesive is a BIG thing for me…makes projects much easier).
Now, it’s time to hang your creation!
I have a vintage window frame that I turned into a chalkboard. I decided to hang my banner there.
I wrapped red and white bakers twine around the window a couple of times, then tied a bow near one of the sides of the window.
Attach your papers to the curtain clips, then position them on the bakers twine.
And that’s it! Now, you’ve got yourself a Quick & Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Banner!
This project can be adapted for any holiday or party. I’ve already started thinking of ones for Easter, 4th of July, my oldest daughter’s graduation, Mother’s Day…. The possibilities are endless! :0)
Don’t forget to pin this project, so that you’ll have it handy when you need it!
Thanks again to Kirsten for having me, and to all of you for checking out my project! I’m looking forward to my next post in February.
