I am very pleased to welcome a wonderful guest blogger today – Brandy from Just Our Style! She has put together something really fantastic for you in preparation of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday coming up in a couple of weeks. Hi Brandy!
My name is Brandy J. from the Just Our Style blog and I’m so excited to be guest blogging on One Tough Mother. Since St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner I thought it would be fun to share a recipe and a few tips for creating quick and easy seasonal gifts.I’m a total chocoholic, but after discovering Pear Bread a few years ago I fell. in. love. This yummy bread is good enough to be a dessert. It’s moist, sweet, and delicious even without my beloved chocolate chips.
ST. PATTY’S PEAR BREAD
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups granulated sugar
2 ½ cups pears (peeled, cored, and diced)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
10 drops green food coloring (optional)
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease two 8×4″ loaf pans.
2. Combine oil, sugar, eggs, and food coloring in a large mixing bowl. Stir in pears and vanilla.
3. Combine remaining ingredients in a separate bowl.
4. Combine dry and wet mixtures; mix well. Pour into prepared pans.
5. Bake for 60 minutes.
I love dressing up baked goodies with paper and embellishments. It’s amazing how a few small touches can magically make your food taste even better! Below are two super simple options for transforming your bread into perfectly posh St. Patrick’s Day gifts.
Start by wrapping your cooled bread in parchment paper (just like you’d wrap a present). Then adhere a strip of patterned paper around your bread. Combine a simple die cut circle (or use coordinating patterned paper and a circle punch), a paper flower, button, and some hemp twine. Wa-la…gift complete.
If you’re really crunched for time go uber simple and channel your inner Martha Stewart. Tie your bread with trendy baker’s twine and this FREE downloadable tag courtesy of my friend, Kristy from Snickerplum(yep, she made this just for YOU). Write a simple message to personalize your gift and you’re done!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, all. I try to remember every day just how lucky I am to have so many amazing blessings. I know you’re all equally blessed and I hope you used this glorious green holiday as a chance to embrace your inner leprechaun, bake some bread, decorate your home with a rainbow, and count your lucky stars!
Thanks SO much Brandy for this fabulous post and delicious recipe! I can’t wait to try it myself. 🙂 Also thank you to Kristy for the free download! You ladies rock!
