Today, October 12, 2022, the all new 2023 Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters are available for purchase. While beautiful and insanely popular, you might be wondering - Are 2023 Powersheets right for me? As someone who just purchased their ninth set, I want to help you make an educated decision, so here we go!
Are 2023 Powersheets Right For You?
This isn’t going to be one of those blog posts that tries to hard-sell you on something you may not need. That’s not how I roll. My goal is to help you make an informed decision, because Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters aren’t exactly cheap.
2023 will be my ninth year of purchasing Powersheets. I bought them eight years in a row, the last year being 2020. Needless to say, I didn’t get much use out of them that year, so I took a break for the last couple of years. I decided to purchase them again for 2023 because my life has changed and I feel like they will be beneficial to me at this point.
I’ve put together a series of questions to ask yourself when trying to decide if the 2023 Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters are right for you or not.
Do you need or want to do a full-life evaluation?
Prep pages usually take me a few weeks to complete because they require a lot of thought, heart work, and getting real with myself about things that are sometimes hard truths.
It’s a lot of journaling, and they cover all aspects of your life, from your health to your spiritual life to your relationships and work. If you feel the need to do a major evaluation of your life as it is in this moment, this is a great way to do just that.
You’ll look back on the year that was and write down how you feel about it, what went right and what went wrong, and then think about how you can improve.
You’ll also think about what you want your legacy to be when you’re 80, because at the end of your life, arbitrary tasks you complete won’t matter, but big stuff will.
Prep pages help you begin looking at your goals from the perspective of a long life well lived, rather than a series of small tasks you just hope you’ll do one day.
Do you get overwhelmed by your goals?
Big, scary goals are a good thing, but many of us struggle with overwhelm when those goals feel too big. Part of the beauty of Powersheets is the tending list.
Each month, you’ll take your goals and break them down into monthly, weekly, or daily action steps. For example, if you have a goal to read the entire Bible in one year, then a good daily action step would be to read your daily scripture assignment. Reading the entire Bible in one year feels daunting, but reading a few chapters each night feels attainable.
And as Lara Casey, founder and creator of Powersheets says, “little by little adds up”.
Using your tending list pages each month will also help you see at a glance which goals you’re making progress on, and which ones you are avoiding. Which leads me to my next question…
Do you give up on your goals when life throws a curveball?
When we start each new year, we have these huge hopes and dreams and aspirations. There’s a tingling excitement in the air as if this is the year we’re finally going to do those things we’ve put off for the past decade.
With that, we get excited and set tons of amazing goals, some of which are really not important to us but we think they sound good at the time.
With the 2023 Powersheets, you’ll get a quarterly refresh on your goals. It’s a mini-version of the prep pages allowing you to evaluate how you’re doing in each area of your life up to that point, and determine if the goals you set at the beginning of the year are still goals you want to work towards achieving.
And here’s a secret: It’s perfectly okay to let go of some of your goals and create new ones.
For example, I started 2021 with an online t-shirt business that was brand new to me. I was thrilled and worked really hard to grow my business. But in November, a good friend of mine told me about a retail space that had come available in downtown Greensboro, Georgia, and when we went to look at it, we ended up signing a lease and opened a shop and event venue!
My store, Lake & Local, was nowhere on my radar for 2021 and, therefore, was not a goal at the beginning of 2021. But by the end of the year, it was my primary goal and my online t-shirt shop got put on the back burner.
Life happens. Things come up and we have to roll with it. That’s what these quarterly refresh pages are all about!
Will you dedicate time regularly to work on your goals?
This is a big question. Truthfully, in the first several years of purchasing Powersheets, I stopped using them by March or April because I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) make time to put them to work.
Here’s the real deal: whether you use Powersheets goal-planning workbooks, a sheet of notebook paper, a Google doc, or anything else, nothing will work unless you put in the effort.
Your goals have to be important enough to you that you will dedicate time and attention to them regularly. Powersheets are merely a tool (albeit a really, really pretty tool) to help you work on and towards your goals little by little throughout the year.
If you will dedicate the time to do the prep pages, and dedicate time each day, week, and month to work on your goals, then consider buying the 2023 Powersheets goal-planning workbook from Cultivate What Matters.
If you think you’re just too busy, or don’t think you’ll realistically spend time working on your goals often, then don’t bother.
If you’ve gotten this far and decided that you’d like to give Powersheets a try, you have a few options:
- 90-day Powersheets: these are great if you’re just interested in trying them before committing to a full year. Undated, leatherette covers in two colors, simplified version of the full year workbook.
- One Year 2023 Powersheets: these are the full, dated version and come spiral-bound and with five cover options. All the prep pages, quarterly refresh pages, and stickers.
I personally went with the Bluebird cover for the 2023 One Year Powersheets and can’t wait to receive them and get started on the prep pages!
Please reach out if you have any questions about the Powersheets goal-setting workbook. I’ll be creating more content in the coming weeks to share a side-by-side comparison of the 90-Day Powersheets and One Year Powersheets, an in-depth look at the prep pages, tips to make Powersheets work for you, and much more. See you soon!
