You know those gorgeous and perfectly staged before-and-after photos on Pinterest? Those dramatic room makeovers that just “wow” you? Yea, this isn’t one of those. Yet. Room makeovers take time, which I don’t have much of, but I did want to show you a room in progress that I’m pretty dang excited about!
A couple months ago I shared some plans for what we’re calling a Boho Vintage Grunge Chic bedroom makeover in my 13-year-old daughter’s room. It’s taken some time to get started, but I finally did. Well, I got the walls painted at least, and it’s already a drastic difference.
Wanna see? Of course you do – that’s why you’re here. 🙂
Drastic, right? It’s so mature and gorgeous and OMG I’m crazy about that dark plum! We opted to paint one accent wall in this rich plum color that Marley picked out, and the other walls are bright white.
You might notice that the bed has been dismantled down to just the box springs and mattress, and turned lengthwise against the accent wall. In the words of John C. Reilly’s character Dale from “Stepbrothers”, “There’s so much room for activities!”
I love that Marley decided to keep a few things from her younger days, like her puppy rug. The whole idea behind this Boho Vintage Grunge Chic look is the eclectic mix of old and new, rich colors and patterns, so this puppy rug works.
One of my favorite finds for her room so far is this elephant head from At Home (formerly Garden Ridge).
Marley picked out the lights on a recent Target run – they might get moved around a bit but for now, they add just enough light for her to sit in her bed and read or study. I really love her bed turned this way – it’s like a giant daybed.
See that gorgeous blanket? My awesome mom made that for her. 🙂 Love it!
There’s one more wall to show you.
On the wall opposite the bed, we opted to paint the top half of the wall in black chalk paint. I haven’t cured it yet so I couldn’t write something cute on there for pictures, but it’s all good.
By the way, did you catch a glimpse of that jewelry hanger in the corner by the chalk wall? I’m sharing the tutorial today on Yellow Bliss Road.
Next on the to-do list for this room is that old vanity you see there. The round mirror that attaches to it is in the attic, and the whole shebang is getting a big makeover that I will most definitely share with you!
We’re also going to be making some bookcase-style storage for the adjacent wall, adding more artwork and some cool lighting, and fixing up her closet, which is a hot mess at the moment.
It was a huge load off my mind getting this room painted. I put it off for so long, but I feel like the biggest chunk of this room makeover is behind me and now I can just work on smaller projects as time permits.
So what do you think so far? I’d love to hear your feedback!
