Boho Chic Vanity Makeover

I have a confession to make.  I’m a DIY blogger but until this past weekend, I had never made over a piece of furniture.  Ever.  I was terrified of messing it up.  But, as part of Marley’s room makeover, I had to get over my fear and give an old vanity a serious makeover, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome!  I can’t wait to share this Boho Chic Vanity Makeover with you today!
Boho Chic Vanity Makeover | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceIt’s just so beautiful!!!

If you’ve been following along with the room makeover plans, our plans included making over this beauty in the same paint color as the accent wall.  I have to admit, it’s even more beautiful than I anticipated!
Boho Chic Vanity Makeover | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceLet’s just pretend my husband’s feet aren’t sticking out in the picture up there, okay? 🙂  The mirror wasn’t attached so he had to help me out to get this “before” shot.  (Thanks hon!)

I started with a creamy white vanity with brass fixtures.  Cute, but not that statement piece that we were going for.
Boho Chic Vanity Makeover | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceI read all kinds of blog posts all about painting furniture, and they all recommended different methods.  The problem was, I didn’t have chalk paint or milk paint.  I had wall paint that I wanted to use in order to perfectly match the accent wall in Marley’s room.

Thankfully, my amazing friend Lauren from The Thinking Closet shared a post full of tips for painting furniture using latex wall paint!!  Perfect!!  I followed Lauren’s tips to a “T” – foam brushes, primer, polycrylic…and the results?

Well, see for yourself:

It’s not perfect, but it’s beautiful, and it’s good enough for my first ever furniture makeover.
Boho Chic Vanity Makeover | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceIt took a coat of primer and 3 coats of paint to get the smooth finish I was going for.  I also changed out the brass fixtures for some cool knobs I picked up at Hobby Lobby – mercury glass on top, crystal on bottom.
