Creating an Outdoor Living Space

Thanks so much to At Home for sponsoring this post and helping to create our outdoor living space.

When we purcashed our home three years ago, the back yard was…well…in dire need of some TLC.  It was honestly the worst yard in the neighborhood, so we spent quite a bit of time and effort cleaning it up and making it livable.  Finally, we have created our very own Outdoor Living Space.  (Be sure to make it to the end of this post for a chance to win a gift card to use at your At Home store!)

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceAfter clearing the backyard with a Bobcat with a backhoe attachment, moving a bunch of dirt around, laying 14 pallets of sod, and over 100 bales of pinestraw, we had a yard rather than a jungle.

See?  That was our backyard when we moved in.  Crazy, right?  You can get all the updates HERE.

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceLast summer was “the summer of the deck”.  My hubby Mark spent the better part of June building our deck, and it’s so fabulous!  After we stained the deck, Mark decided to keep his carpentry going and built our deck sectional.  My mom made the cushions.

Our outdoor living space wouldn’t be complete without this seating area.  We purchased a piece of outdoor carpeting to create a rug, and added the fire pit last fall.

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceThis is the perfect spot to sit back and relax, or to entertain when we have friends over.

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceThe hot days here in Georgia do create a bit of a problem sometimes, so we headed to our local At Home store and picked out this massive umbrella, and for night time entertaining, we also added some solar powered twinkle lights and mason jar lanterns.

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceIsn’t it dreamy?  It’s awesome not to have to worry about plugs or wires, since all of the lights are solar powered.

Creating an Outdoor Living Space | Sweet Tea & Saving GraceThis is my new favorite hang-out spot.  I can kick back on the outdoor sofa, put my feet up, and enjoy flipping through my magazines with a glass of sweet tea.  I can see my bird feeders from here, too!

  1. I was just thinking about doing some upgrades to our deck! It’s huge, but old…and was transported to our house from one +/- 25 miles away (apparently in the dead of night). Dad added a new post under it last year and covered it with plywood so grandparents wouldn’t trip over the uneven boards, but it’s still ugly and in need of a facelift!

  2. It’s amazing what a little TLC can do – maybe start by cleaning it up and giving it a fresh coat of stain. Add a little seating area and you’re good to go! 🙂

  3. I would use the gift card to help purchase a new rug for my front porch outdoor area. The one we currently have is faded and worn out! I have been searching for the perfect rug at yard sales and thrift stores, but I have had no luck so far!

  4. Hmmm…I think I would use it to buy a new planter or maybe even an outdoor rug. They have such pretty items! And I LOVE your new umbrella!!!
