Hello all you fabulous DIYers! Did you see the Laundry Room Reveal last week? Call me crazy, but everytime I go downstairs to do laundry now, I flip on those beautiful mason jar lights and say, “Hello beautiful!” It’s such a happy space! Speaking of those lights, today I want to show you how I made them so you can make your own! (Aren’t I so nice?!)
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of mason jars. I mean, really, who doesn’t love these versatile jars!? I was so excited when y’all voted for these bad boys for the new lighting in my laundry room!
The old lighting was just sad….remember?
Ah yes. Those lights. Ewww.
Believe it or not, there is a very simple way to take canned lights and turn them into pendant lights, autoMAGICally! And the mason jar pendant is just icing on the cake!
I bought 2 of these pretty blue vintage mason jars to use as my lighting. Lowe’s sells Recessed Light to Pendant Fitter Conversion Kits for about $20 each, and I picked up two of those in bronze. (They also come in polished nickel.)
To use the old mason jars, first you have to break the glass inside the lid. The old mason jars have that, and you can’t drill a hole through it. Just break the glass and toss it.
Grab your drill (or, in my case, my hubby with the drill) and drill a hole in the lid. We actually drilled several small holes then cut it to make the hole large enough for the bulb to fit.
This is what the kit looks like. The cord is really long, so you’ll have to cinch it up to tuck inside the canned light area before finishing your mount. But that’s later…
To create the pendant, grab the part of the kit where the light bulb will go (called the socket). There’s a socket ring that is screwed around it that you’ll need to remove first.
See? Comes right off…
Insert the mason jar lid onto the socket, then reattach the socket ring.
Voila! It’s ready for a light bulb and jar!
The other end of the pendant lit kit simply screws into the ceiling in place of a light bulb. You’ll cinch up the excess cord, tuck it into the canned light area, then tighten screws around the canopy and it cinches up to the ceiling.
Add a light bulb and your mason jar, and you’re done!
It’s so easy, and it looks so much better than those ugly canned lights, don’t you think?
I absolutely love my lights, and how easy they were to install!

I don’t know if it’s just me or if perhaps everybody else experiencing problems with your
site. It appears like some of the written text on your content are running off the screen. Can someone else please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to
them too? This could be a issue with my browser because I’ve had this happen before.
