I’m 2003, I got my first taste of business ownership, and ran a children’s clothing store (with a toddler in tow) for 3 years.

After my divorce, I had to get a “real job” to have insurance for my daughter and I. I hated every damn minute of working a corporate job.

I worked my ass off to build an online business and, in June 2016, I finally quit my corporate job and went full-time with my coaching business.

Since then, I’ve tried my hand at a wide variety of businesses, and I’ve been able to remain self-employed. But I’ve struggled with finding my true calling…

…until now. At 43, I’m living my purpose. I run @lakeandlocal, and in just 2 short months, it’s changed my life.

All the other things I’ve done to earn money are now being used to run Lake & Local. It’s pretty cool 😎

If you’re feeling stuck or tired or lost, take a breath, say a prayer, and keep going. You’ve got this.

Etsy or my own website?

I get this question a lot, so here are my thoughts:

I’ve built websites on self-hosted Wordpress, Squarespace, and Shopify 👉 all have their benefits and their limitations.

I’ve sold products on all of them and Etsy. And my success didn’t depend on the platform, it depended on my effort.

Instead of choosing between Etsy and your own website, how about use both? 🤷‍♀️

If you’re just getting started, Etsy is great for testing the market, growing your following, and getting a feel for all the moving parts of running a business.

Bottom line: there isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” answer. Make an educated choice and run with it!

Did somebody say CUSTOMS?

Loads of custom orders lately and I’m so grateful! I LOVE custom orders. Like…LOVE them.

Especially when someone gives me free reign over their custom order. The olive tee that says “let me tell you bout my Jesus” was one of those. She placed a wholesale order and loved the shirts so much that she asked me for a custom tee! She told me what she wanted it to say and let me work my magic! 😍
