DIY Ruffle Christmas Tree

Can you believe we are in the last few days before Christmas??  I look forward to this time of year but it always seems to go by so quickly.  The handmade decorations are some of my favorite aspects of the holiday, and it makes me smile to think that I might be using these handmade pieces for years to come.  Today I want to show you how to create a beautiful Ruffle Christmas Tree for your own home, one that you will hopefully enjoy each and every Christmas season.  (I originally posted this tutorial on One Artsy Mama a few weeks ago, but wanted to be sure to share it here as well, in case you missed it.)

I’ve been using a lot of gold and glitter lately, and this Christmas tree is no exception.

To create your own, you will need:

  • Styrofoam cone (the one pictured is about 6″ tall)
  • Ruffle ribbon
  • Straight pins
  • Decorative ribbon for the topper

Starting at the bottom of the cone, pin the ruffled ribbon while wrapping it around the cone.  Be sure to leave a bit of ribbon overlay on the bottom to cover the foam.  Continue pinning every few inches and wrapping the ribbon all the way to the top.

Your tree is taking shape!  Next we will cover the top.

Cut a circle out of decorative ribbon or fabric and pin down on the top of the cone.

It doesn’t have to be completely covered.  Once you top it off with a bow, you won’t notice the gaps. 🙂

Using your decorative ribbon, make a bow and pin to the top.  I used two different wired gold ribbons.  (If you use wired ribbon, wrap it around a pencil to create the curls.)

That’s it!  You have a beautiful ruffle Christmas tree!

Tomorrow, I’ll show you how to make the burlap tree!  See you then!
