Every year about this time, I start organizing a group of people at our church to participate in an annual event that culminates in the giving of shoeboxes overflowing with goodies like craft tools to underprivileged children around the world. We support Operation Christmas Child, and I was thrilled when I was selected to partner with Fiskars in their Champions for Kids initiative. What better partner for Operation Christmas Child!
Every year, Samaritan’s Purse sends hundreds of thousands of shoeboxes to children across the world through Operation Christmas Child. I am the chair for Operation Christmas Child in our church, and to me, putting shoeboxes together signals the beginning of the holiday season, and reminds us what the real meaning of the season is all about.
The Fiskars Champions for Kids initiative works with the same goal in mind – to help children thrive. Thanks to Fiskars, my church and I were able to get a huge jumpstart on our shoeboxes this year by filling them with craft scissors, art tools, and other goodies to make kids happy!
Check out all the awesomeness! Crayola crayons and markers, Elmer’s glue and glue sticks, Fiskars kids scissors…
…this will make a lot of children very happy!
Packing shoeboxes full of craft supplies and basic necessities like toothbrushes and toothpaste is such a simple way to give back to those in need. In addition to meeting their basic needs, I love sending craft supplies. I feel very strongly about the fact that every child, regardless of their income level, should be given the tools they need that will allow them to stretch their creative muscles.
All of the Fiskars supplies that I purchased got distributed into several shoeboxes, and basic necessities were added. I also wanted to put something a little personal in the boxes, so I took a tip from the Fiskars Craft Projects page, and chose to make bookmarks for the kids.
I chose several pieces of colorful scrapbook paper for my bookmarks.
Using my paper trimmer, I cut them down to 2″ x 6″.
I cut out a scalloped circle to decorate the bookmark.
I also used my Fiskars corner trimmer to decorate some of the paper.
These are only two of the bookmarks I made to go in the shoeboxes. Cute, right?
