A few of my friends repeatedly tell me that they wish they were “crafty” like me and that I should teach classes or something. While I don’t think I’m all that and a bag of chips, I do enjoy crafting and I love to show others how to make cool stuff, so I finally decided to have a little shin-dig at my house to have some crafty fun!
I had a few of my girlfriends over Saturday night to drink a little wine…play with some paint and glitter….
The food wasn’t the centerpiece of the party, so I didn’t stress myself out. I served Valentine M&M’s, sugar cookies with colorful sprinkles (store-bought), crackers and port-wine cheese, and those little Anytizer’s by Tyson (they’re yummy!).
We spread out in my bar in our basement and started crafting.
For my “Love Letter” art, I started by using blue painter’s tape to create stripes, and painted the stripes a pretty navy blue.
I had to use 3 coats to make it dark enough to cover the white canvas completely. After peeling off the painter’s tape, I felt the need to fancy-up the canvas a bit more before moving on.
I used some white glitter and Mod Podge to add a little sparkle to the white stripes.
(By the way, my lines weren’t crisp on my stripes. If you have a better suggestion for doing this, rather than using painter’s tape, please let me know!)
After the glitter dried, it was time to make the love letters! I bought a pack of multi-colored cardstock already cut down to 2″ x 3″. Using a ruler and Sharpie pen, I drew lines to make each piece of cardstock resemble an envelope, then covered the top “flap” of each envelope in red or pink glitter.
Finally, I used hot glue to attach red baker’s twine to the back of each top corner of my canvas, then used glitter clothespins to attach each envelope to the twine.
I love all of the glitter! Here is the finished piece:
All of us had such a fun time creating our art!
This was so much fun – hours of laughing and talking and crafting with wonderful women! We will most definitely do this again….Easter, perhaps?

LOVE it! Helpful Tip: To get crisp lines with painters tape, seal the edges of your tape with a small coat of the base paint or with Mod Podge. Then paint with your desired color. You’ll get crisp lines every time! 🙂
See, why didn’t I consult you BEFORE I painted this?! Thank you!!! I’m making a couple other canvas crafts soon so I will definitely try Mod Podge next time. (Enjoy your day off from school…I’m jealous!) 😉
