Today I’m sharing with you some pretty awesome info about Bible journaling.
So, please grab a cup of coffee and spend some time learning about this great new creative way to spend in Faith.
Do you love the Bible? Do you love to draw? Or perhaps you love to journal, color or paint. If you answered yes to all these questions then you will love the world of Bible journaling.
What is Bible journaling you may ask. Well, let’s break this down and I promise you will love what you will find out not just about the Bible but about yourself.
Bible journaling is a vision of how you interpret the verses and God’s Word through illustration. It is a visual presentation of your worship with God. It is a creative way to reflect on your scripture reading. It is an opportunity to connect deeply, personally and spiritually with the Word of God in a way that suits your individuality.
Bible journaling is journaling, coloring, drawing, writing or even doodling in the margins and/or pages of your bible. I know what you are saying, “WAIT….WHATTTT, draw in my bible”? See I knew what your reaction would be. Why? Because it was the same reaction I had. But, It’s okay to feel that way and as you read you will understand this new movement of journaling.
What you journal, draw or doodle is inspired by the Word. It’s not how it looks, but rather that you are expressing your thoughts on a particular verse.
This is a fantastic form of artful meditation. Grab your Bible, lay out your tools and find that quiet place that you can have your own interactive Bible study, spend time with God and let His word flow through your fingertips.
If you are wondering what tools to use have no worries. There are so many options that I will be covering with you all very soon. Here are some examples:
- Washi Tape
- So much more…
In my first illustrated entry above I did “The Book of Genesis” and what my interpretation was and I only used colored pencils.
I drew my ideas out on a sketch pad before I transferred it to my Bible. I’m a little bit of a perfectionist and I wanted it to be perfect or at least perfect to me.
I know some of you may find it offensive to draw in a Bible or maybe you have an aversion to it for whatever reason. Or maybe you are like me and have always had a hard time understanding what you are reading.
That’s Okay!! I’m not here to judge. I’m learning too and since I started Bible journaling I am understanding more of God’s word. My relationship with him has been a hot mess for many years. But, one thing I do know is God doesn’t judge, He’s always there when you need Him and welcomes you with open arms.
This is my journaling Bible and it’s an ESV Single Column Journaling Bible by Crossways. The vinyl lettering on the front was done for me by a special friend that helped me get the Bible.
I hope that I am able to encourage and inspire you through my journey. No matter where you are in life it’s never too late to make time for God’s word.
Encourage one another and build each other up. just as in fact as you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
